How do i get rid of a virus that i think is in my system files?

Q) When I connect online I get these popups, which i shouldnt get because my pop up blocker is on high (allows no popups). These popups vary from 'online virus scanner' sites to blank pages. Most of them I can just close tho some try to force me to download a file but my security settings stop these. Its the blank pages that are the worst because they totally freeze my screen. I cant do anything on any of the web pages I have up and I end up pressing 'alt, ctrl, del' and restarting my pc. My anti virus and anti spyware progs show nothing when i scan my c drive and my firewall doesnt show anything wrong either. help!! How often should you scan you computer for viruses and spyware?

Q) I scaned my pc yesterday and had infected filesand medium risk cookies which I deleted yesterday. and again todayI scanning and i have a few infected files. Also I have AVG and a pc guard which I got free from my internet provider. AVG however I got on there online site? Are there any other free anti virus software/spyware that I should dowload or is two enough? Today I have one infected file so far but it is still scanning.

A) Avoid AOL if at all possible! They don't tell you about the rubbish they load up onto your computer and I mean rubbish! AOL has a habit of taking over your computer, like a virus but you're paying for it! Have a look at NTL/Telewest/BT websites for their offers. NTL has unlimited BB usage. I'd rather pay a couple of quid more than having all the garbage AOL dumps on your computer!

Can I run online anti-virus scan from website, even if I have an anti virus (mcAfee) installed on my computer?

A) Although you can do an online scan with the AV running, it is recommended you turn it off before running the scan. This should be done at the site. I recommend the TrendMicro housecall scan in a previous answer. Before you use this, you should get the latest version of Java Update 7. online scans vs resident anti-virus?

Q) I have up-to-date spybot, adaware, symantec AV, McAfee firewall installed on my computer. I ran the scan as I normally did and everything seemed clean. Then I decided to run an online scan because ppl said they were more effective, and yes they did detect things my other scans did not detect. Why? Can certain viruses/spyware camouflage themselves against locally running AV software? A) I reccomend mcaffee's online scan.. but generaly, I dont recommend online scans... I got directly to having an anti-virus.. here are some things to know if you have a virus.. First, you may think you have a virus, but how do you really tell? Viruses often cause erratic behavior, smiley faces may pop up, your screen may disappear, or your computer may crash. The trigger that activates the virus can be almost anything. For instance, the virus can be activated the minute it is installed. Or it may start its dirty work the next time you start your computer. In many cases, a virus can reside inside your computer in an inactive state, waiting for a certain event (like a certain date) to happen. From the moment the virus infiltrated your computer to the time that it made itself known to you, you could have innocently spread the virus to others. A) this is a difficult Q it would help to tell what kind of virus it is and then look at your firewall do you have a firewall? i know this may sound odd but try crashing your computer and then restart it afterwords. sometimes this will kill the virus depending on what type it is and yes there are about 5 different kinds of viruses

A) What virus does norton say you have? Did you try booting up in safe mode and deleting your temp internet files?

Should I uninstal Yahoo Online Protection before installing different anti-virus software? How do I uninstall?

Q) After scanning pc online, I have multible infections on my lap-top pc. I have been using Yahoo Online Protection. Keeping everything updated--yet I have trojans, malware, spyware and more. A friend downloaded AVG freeware virus protection to my laptop to remove the viruses. After the scan, I clicked repair and the monitor went black. A minute later it restarted and instead of removing the viruses, that's when the problems began! Icons from the toolbar were gone, programs won't run and I can't get on line half the time. I am receiving many error messages. Also, pc keeps freezing up and then shutting down. It has recovered each time, so far? I have tried System Restore, but it didn't solve the problems either. A) Most antivirus program manufacturers say that you should only have one antivirus program on the computer (something about memory management issues). A) go to "Super Antispyware.com,and download the free version,and run a full scan..then when you finish that open the start menu,click Run",and type MRT,an press "ok"..Run a full system scan with this built in removal tool.Also you might want to try "spyware terminator.com" this one is excellent too.

i got a virus in my pc. its stopping everything. even online virus scans.?

A) Try to boot into Safe Mode (hit F8 before Windows XP boots normally), then the virus probably isn't awoken, and disable the startup entry by using msconfig. You can also perform a virus scan because you have better chance your anti virus program will find it. EDIT: coincidently rj c says the same ;-)

what do i do when the yahoo online protection cant get rid of a virus and or spyware?

A) Much of the Malware produced in the last couple of years hide part of it in areas not accessed by AV and AS while scanning in normal mode. These parts do not get removed and they then dowload the infection and reinfect within second. Try these steps. Be sure to update your AV and AS programs first. TEMPORARILY SHOW HIDDEN FILES AND FOLDERS. 1. Click Start, and then click Control Panel. 2. Click Appearance and Themes, and then click Folder Options. 3. On the View tab, under Hidden files and folders, click "Show hidden files and folders", and clear(uncheck) the "Hide protected operating system files" check box. IMPORTANT: Files are hidden by Windows for a very good reason. It is not wise to experiment with these files. Unfortunately, to successfully remove modern spyware we must turn this protection off temporarily. Please turn the protection back on when you have finished cleaning your system. EMPTY INTERNET EXPLORER BROWSER CACHE: 1. On the Internet Explorer Tools menu, click Internet Options. 2. On the General tab, in the Temporary Internet Files section, click the Delete Files button. Select the Delete all offline content check box in the confirmation dialogue box that appears, click OK. Click OK again. RESTART IN SAFE MODE: To do this you need to hold down or repeatedly tap the F8 key while the computer is booting (when the computer is displaying a black screen with white text). When the boot menu appears, use your keyboard arrows to select "Safe Mode." Safe Mode can look quite ugly. The color may look bad, and all of your desktop icons will be very large. This is normal. START THE SCAN WITH YOUR ANTI-VIRUS OR ANTI-SPYWARE PROGRAM. When the scan and removal are completed REBOOT COMPUTER. This will restart you in normal mode. DON'T FORGET TO RESET HIDDEN FILES AND FOLDERS. NEW RESTORE POINT. The RESTORE POINTS may be infected with the Malware and cannot be used. HERE'S HOW: 1. Click Start, and then click Control Panel. 2. Click Performance and Maintenance, click System, and then click on the System Restore tab. 3. Select the Turn Off System Restore check box, click Apply, then restart your computer. 4. Return to the System Restore Tab and turn System Restore back on. TO SET A NEW RESTORE POINT: 1. Click the Start button. 2. Point to Programs, then navigate to Accessories, then System Tools, then click System Restore. 3. Choose Create a restore point, and then click Next. 4. In the Restore point description box, type a name for your restore point, and then click Next. 5. Click OK. NOTE: If you are using Windows XP Service Pack 2 (SP2) and are unable to access the Internet after removing Malware, there is a command that may fix the problem. It works by resetting the winsock catalogue. Click on Start, then Run and type CMD in the box. Click OK. Type "netsh winsock reset" (no quotes)into the DOS window that appears.

I am looking for a good Firewall and Anti-Virus?

Q) I am running Windows ME as I do not have enuf memory on my computer to run a newer version of Windows. On my old computer I was running XP Pro and used Zone Alarm. I found it useful, but its not compatible with Windows ME. I currently run AVG for an Anti-Virus, but I found that it does not detect all virus' like a lot of online scans do. So I am looking for a good, cheap or free if possible, Firewall and Anti-Virus.

A) ZA pro has comaptibility problems after the last 2 security updates. I use Yahoo's free AV, Win XP Firewall, and Y-Companion toolbar for pop-up blocking. I also use Mozilla Firefox, beecause IE bacame far too buggy after the last security update, closing itself at random. I have never had any viruses, and the setup caught some trying to get in.

A) delete that folder as well use Kaspersky internet security suite Anti-Virus 6.0 scan pc in safe mode you have trojans & malware on ur pc get this then scan pc in safemode use this to do it with & that spyware will go ewido antispyware spybot antispyware blocker ad-aware(se ) then you go to safemode on ur pc. restart pc. as pc is starting up. keep hitting on (F8) key you come to a menu . go to safemode . hit on enter then enter again. pc will go to login screen . go to ur user name hit on that then run .da scan to find that spyware& malware when found . delete da .spyware. then restart pc
